Colombo Chief District Judge Sandun Vithana yesterday fixed April 22 for trial, of a case filed by Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Committee member Montagu Sarachchandra, seeking an injunction order restraining former President Maithripala Sirisena from the Chairmanship of the SLFP.

The Plaintiff told Court that holding the post of Party Chairman while holding the post of Patron of the Party was an invalid act in the eyes of the Law and that, the special Executive Committee meeting held on February 25, 2022, for the post of Chairman, was held in violation of the Party Constitution. He added that the meeting held without even inviting former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, was illegal.

The Presidential Commission of Inquiry has found that the accused Maithripala Sirisena is criminally responsible for the Easter attack, and recommended that the Attorney General should file a case against former President Sirisena under the Penal Code for the Easter attack which killed more than 250 people. The Plaintiff stated that the recommendations have not been challenged by any Court to date.

Attorney-at-Law Dinesh de Silva appeared for the Plaintiff.
