The Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Ministry yesterday requested the public not to be misled by false claims made by some individuals with vested interests and to follow the official auspicious times prepared by the State Astrologers’ Committee for the 2024 Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
The Ministry in a statement said it has been the tradition since 1993 for the State Astrologers’ Committee to prepare the auspicious times for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
Following that tradition, this year too, the Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Ministry had given its consent to release the auspicious times prepared by the State Astrologers’ Committee for the 2024 Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
However, later an astrologer who took part in preparing the auspicious times and placed his signature to the document and several other individuals have taken to social media to object to the auspicious times while going against the tradition followed over a number of years.
The Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Ministry therefore urged the public to follow the official auspicious times prepared by the State Astrologers’ Committee for the 2024 Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
