On a scintillating evening, Vidura College recognized their top achievers in the academic year 2023 in the distinguished patronage of Venerable (Dr.) Omalpe Sobitha Thera, the chief Sanganayake of Southern Province of Ramanna Nikaya as their chief guest.
The school hierarchy including the chairman Dr. Ranjith Cabral and the board of directors, the deputy and vice principals, sectional heads teachers and a large gathering of parents and students were present on the occasion. The Cub Scouts and Girl Guides adorned with their smart uniform lined up along the path to the entrance at the Assembly Hall forming the guard of honour to receive the Chief Guest along with the other distinguish guests arriving for the Prize Giving.
College Principal, D. G Sumanasekara, presenting his report for 2023 highlighted the significant achievements made by the Upper Section of Vidura College during the past three terms of the academic year 2023. He reflected on the setting of the school which provides a taste of greenery and tranquillity, of a stress free environment for the students to receive their education. Further in his detailed address, he detailed the key events held in different sections throughout the year.

Before commencing his speech he did not forget to do a brief introduction of the Chief Guest of the day Venerable (Dr.) Omalpe Sobitha Thera, whose magnanimous service has enabled to spread Buddhism all over the world. He expressed a word of gratitude for the invaluable service of the venerable Thera, who initiated Bodhiraja Foundation, and established the Bodhiraja English medium International School at Embilipitiya.
The Chief Guest in his address spoke appreciatively of the school having been able to rise and meet the many challenges of the past and whatever was to come in the year ahead. He applauded the school for having contributed to the Nation’s life over its brief history equipping young learners with English knowledge, a burning need of the country while preserving the local culture and identity. Taking examples from India and China, he stressed the importance of planning for the future and working towards aims of the country with a collective mind if Sri Lanka needs to move forward from where it is now.
The Chairman and the Principal took the stage to involve in the distribution of prizes for the best achievers of Vidura College in the academic year 2023. It had been a pleasurable moment to witness a large number of Vidurians from Grade 06 to the Advance level cross the stage to receive their prizes amidst rapturous applause of parents in the audience.
The intensity and the excitement of the audience reached its peak with the announcements of the names of the most eminent students of the year. K. A. Isuri Divya of Grade 08 and H. A. Sethuli Dharamaratne received the trophies for the best all- rounder of 2023 in the middle and upper sections respectively.
Thisum Abeywickrama from the Physical Science Stream, Thisus Samarasekara from the Bio science stream, Anuthi Jayanetti from the Arts Stream and Vihanga Amarasinghe for the other subject streams received trophies for their best performances during the last academic year. In the meanwhile Lahiru Hettirachchi and Mindu Hapangama were chosen to be the best performers of the commerce stream
The Professor Charles Dahanayake Challenge Trophy for the most eminent student of the year was awarded to Kesara Sumanasekara signifying his outstanding performances in academic and co-curricular activities in school. The credentials read out prior to Kesara’s receiving of the award provided a fine testimony of what Vidura offers to its students. The school offering a plethora of avenues ranging from sports, language skills to academic enhancement make the journey of learning a pleasurable encounter to every Vidurian.
