SLPP MP Uddika resigns, Muthukumarana to fill vacancy

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Anuradhapura District MP Uddika Premaratne tendered his resignation from his Parliament seat yesterday. In his resignation letter, Premaratne says he had entered politics with the hope of contributing his service as a young leader to the leader of the country to make a positive change in the country’s politics.

He mentioned in his letter that as he didn’t receive the opportunity to contribute over the last few years, it is difficult to take forward his work as an individual.

A communique issued by Parliament Administration and Communication (Acting)Director Janakantha Silva also confirmed his resignation.

“Member of Parliament Uddika Premarathne representing the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, from Anuradhapura district has tendered his letter of resignation from his position as a Member of Parliament to the Deputy Secretary General of Parliament Chaminda Kularatne yesterday (27),” the communique said.

Accordingly, in accordance with Section 64(1) of the Parliamentary Elections Act No. 1 of 1981, the Secretary General of the Parliament is to inform the Chairman of the Election Commission that the seat of Uddika Premarathne, Member of Parliament in the Ninth Parliament, is vacant, the communique said.

Meanwhile, S.E. Muthukumarana is next in line on the SLPP list for the Anuradhapura District to fill the vacancy created by MP Uddika Premaratne’s resignation.
