Dineth and Shenella shine at International Schools Athletic Meet

Dineth Weeraratne from Leeds International School and Shenella Seneviratne from Gateway College Colombo emerged as the Best Performers at the 22nd TISSL International Schools Athletic Championship. The event, organized by Gateway College and held at the Sugathadasa Stadium, witnessed Lyceum International School Wattala securing the top position in the overall school rankings.

Dineth Weeraratne, breaking records in the boys’ 100m heats with a swift 10.62 seconds, not only secured the Best Athlete Award but also set a new meet record. His outstanding performance earned him accolades like the RIT Alles Challenge Trophy, Edexcel Challenge Trophy, and the Ritzbury Challenge Cup for the Best Male Athlete.

Shenella Seneviratne, winning the gold medal in the girls’ 100m event with a remarkable time of 12.20 seconds, was crowned the Best Girl Athlete. She also claimed the Ritzbury Challenge Cup for the Best Female Athlete. In the overall school rankings, Lyceum International School Wattala

dominated with 803 points, followed by Gateway College Colombo with 756 points, and Lyceum International School Panadura securing the third position with 358 points.

The individual category champions included Umaya Silva of St. Nicholas International School (Under-12 Girls), Yunal Ranaweera of Lyceum International School Wattala (Under-12 Boys), Chenuthi Perera of Lyceum International School Panadura (Under-14 Girls), and Ashain Thewarapperuma of Gateway College Colombo (Under-14 Boys).

Lyceum International School Wattala continued their winning streak by claiming the Under-16, Under-18, and Under-20 Overall Championship titles. Dilini Rajapaksa and Amrith Samarasinghe secured victories in the Under-16 category, while Nehansa Paranaliyanage, Reahan Perera, and Saad Faleel emerged as champions in the Under-18 category. Gateway College Colombo clinched the Under-20 Overall Championship.

The Relay Championship, represented by the Gateway College Graduate School Challenge Trophy, was won by Lyceum International School Wattala with a total of 129 points.

The 22nd TISSL International Schools Athletic Championship, organized by the Gateway College for the 12th year, showcased not only the remarkable achievements of individual athletes but also the sportsmanship and teamwork of the participating schools.
