The launch of the children’s book Dorothy’s Journey written by Lalasha Rupasinghe, a Grade 9 student at Gampaha Lyceum International School, took place with the participation of Lake House Chairman Prof. Harendra Kariyawasam, at the Mahaweli Centre recently.

Dorothy’s Journey is the first book written by Lalasha, who is the daughter of Lake House staffer Ganga Rambukwella. Lalasha hopes to write more books in the future.

Gampaha Lyceum International School Principal Thilanka Karunaratne, addressing the gathering, said that five children of the school have written books on various topics before this and Dorothy’s Journey is the sixth one.

She noted that she is happy as the Principal of the school that it was a special occasion for the school as well as Lalasha. She said that writing and publishing books is important for children and said that a balanced citizen is created through reading and writing books from a young age.

The Principal further stated that Lalasha, who has been flying high from a young age, is an all-rounder. She is a skilfully ardent student engaged in both educational activities and extracurricular activities in the school.

The Principal said that Sri Lanka is a country that has faced various challenges in recent times. “When looking at the history of the country, there were two kinds of national heroes who have protected the country. Of them, one party has defended the country with weapons in their hands, whilst the other party has defended the country with a pen in their hands,” she said.

Accordingly, she added that our children also have the ability to take up the pen and protect the country.

The first copy of the Lalasha’s book was presented to Lake House Chairman Prof. Harendra Kariyawasam. Copies of the book were also presented to the other guests.

Lalasha’s mother Ganga Rambukwella of the Advertising Department of Lake House, her father Dinusha Rupasinghe, Lake House staff members, teachers and students of Lyceum International School and her family members attended the event.
