The main independence commemoration ceremony of Ratnapura district, which was organised concurrently with the 76th National Independence Day, was held recently at Ruwanpura National College of Education premises.
Ruwanpura National College of Education, Kahawatta Regional Council, Sarvodaya Centre, Kahawatta United Trade Union and Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim schools participated in this event which was presided over by Additional District Secretary of Ratnapura Gayani I. Karunaratne.
A parade and a cultural show were also conducted both by the students of Ruwanpura National College of Education and the schools of the area.
Additional District Secretary of Ratnapura participated as the chief guest. A large number of people including heads of the institutions of the district attended the event.
