Dissanayake, Dharmasena power into quarter-finals

Sri Lanka’s Gamini Dissanayake and Suresh Dahrmasena have made it to the quarter-finals of the online ITF UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour. The tournament kicked off at the SLTA hard court yesterday. Dissanayake had a convincing win against Karthik Karunakaran from India, triumphing 2-0 by winning both sets easily with a scoreline of 6-0 in each set. This victory secured Dissanayake’s spot in the quarter-finals.

Dharmasena also secured his place in the quarterfinals by defeating local player Pradeep Kumara with a score of 2-0. Dharmasena’s scoreline stood at 6-1 and 6-4 in his favour.

In other matches, Abu Samah Borhan from Malaysia defeated Damith Jayaratne from Sri Lanka with a score of 6-0 6-0, Sung-BongHa from Korea beat Salinda Chandrasekara with the same score, and Jorcelino Ferreira Lima from Brazil defeated Sampath Darshana from Sri Lanka with a similar score of 6-0 6-0. Mohamad Yusshazwan Bin Yusuf from Malaysia also emerged victorious against WPJ Wijesiri from Sri Lanka.

The ITF organized tournament will continue until February 9 and includes participants from six countries: Sri Lanka, India, Korea, Brazil, Japan, and Malaysia.

This four-day ITF tournament offers a prize money of USD 3,000 and features competitions for both men’s and women’s categories. The men’s singles category consists of 32 players, while the doubles category has 16 teams. For women’s singles, there are 16 participants, and for doubles, there are eight teams.
