In a tough battle on the clay courts in Colombo yesterday, Sri Lanka’s Methvan Wijemanne and Ivanka Samarasinghe fought hard but were knocked out from the Singles in the ITF Junior Circuit Week 2.

Wijemanne faced a strong opponent in Korea’s Dong Hyeon Euom in the Men’s first quarter-final. Unfortunately, he lost 0-2 with a scoreline of 4-6 and 0-6. Dong Hyeon Euom secured a spot in the semi-finals.

On the other side, Ivanka Samarasinghe, another Sri Lankan hopeful, competed against Korea’s Seo Yun Choi in the Women’s quarter-final. Despite putting up a good fight, she also lost 0-2, with a score of 4-6 and 3-6 in favour of the Korean player.

As a result, the Men’s Singles semi-finalists include Kevin Titus Suresh of India, Riku Higashi of Japan, Dong Hyeon Euom of Korea, and Jahfal Muna Kanahaya of Indonesia. In the Women’s Singles, the semi-finalists are Jialan Cai of China, Siyoen Sim of Korea, Seo Yun Choi of Korea, and Felitsata Dorofeeva Rybas of Russia. The competition remains intense as these players vie for a spot in the finals.
