Siblings Matheesha Marambe from Royal College and Kithmi Marambe from Bishop’s College will be leading the nine-member Sri Lanka Diving team at the upcoming BIMSTEC Youth
Aquatic Meet in New Delhi, India. The event is scheduled to take place from February 5 to 10.
The Sri Lankan diving team, consisting of five boys and four girls, is preparing for the six-day tournament. Notably, all five male divers hail from Royal College: Matheesha Marambe (captain), Mikhail Jayaweera, Yusuf Shihar, Ruel Wickremaratne, and Venuka Kankanamge.
The girls’ team, under the leadership of Kithmi Marambe, of Bishops College includes four talented female divers: Vinudi Kankanamge from Visakha Vidyalaya, Shania Silva from Bishop’s College, and Kisara Ranawaka from St Bridget’s Convent
Chanaka Wickramasinghe is set to join as the Diving Coach, bringing valuable expertise to the team. Janaka Biyanwila will contribute as a Diving Judge, adding a skilled perspective to the competition. Ms. Sumanthri Samarawickrama will take on the role of Diving Team Manager, ensuring smooth operations and support for the divers
The BIMSTEC Youth Aquatic Sports Competition will feature three aquatic sports: swimming, diving, and water polo. Sri Lanka is set to field a squad of 95 athletes across all three categories, highlighting the nation’s capability in aquatic sports.
This year’s edition of the competition will see participation from seven countries, including host India, Thailand, Burma, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and Nepal. As the Sri Lankan diving team prepares to go into the competition, expectations are high for a remarkable performance on this international meet.
