Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera yesterday in Parliament called on the Speaker to summon CEB Trade Union Leader Ranjan Jayalal before the Privileges Committee in order to probe a statement made by him that Parliament had not settled its Rs.70 million electricity bill, which was not true.
Minister Wijesekara said that the electricity bill of Parliament has been continuously paid without leaving any arrears. He said that Jayalal had also alleged that the electricity bill of the Presidential Secretariat had not been settled which was again not true. “I inquired about this matter in the morning and found that the electricity bill of Parliament had been continuously settled. The Presidential Secretariat too does not have any arrears,” he said.
The Minister said that Ranjan Jayalal, who had insulted Parliament by claiming that the Parliament has not paid the electricity bill and he should be summoned to the Parliamentary Privileges Committee and necessary legal action should be taken against him.
