Broke the seals of  the relevant question paper bundle

Forwarded the photo to a student via WhatsApp

First paper also sent out

The Criminal Investigation Department yesterday arrested an office assistant who was assisting the head of an examination centre in Moratuwa in connection with the leaking of the Agriculture Science II examination question paper (all mediums) of the GCE Advanced Level Examination 2023 (2024).

Investigations have revealed that the office assistant broke the seals of the relevant question paper bundle, took out one question paper and took a photo of it from his mobile phone and forwarded the photo to a student via WhatsApp.

The said student had forwarded the question paper to several other students through WhatsApp and later it was widely shared among students.

Police media spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said it appears this person had also taken a photo of the first question paper related to the subject held on January 8 and forwarded it through WhatsApp as well. However, it had not been shared widely like the second question paper.

The Criminal Investigation Department had perused the telephone network and had identified the person who first released the question paper.

The suspect, who works as an office assistant in a school in Moratuwa, is a 38-year-old resident of Moratuwa. SSP Nihal Thalduwa further said that it is being investigated whether this person had done it for money or on the basis of friendship.

Thalduwa further said all those who shared the paper have been identified and an investigation on such students will be conducted after the A/L exam is over.
