“Comprehensive measures have been implemented to enhance the safety and security of all airports across the country,” said Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva. He made these remarks in light of the initiatives undertaken by the Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited to augment operations at all airports in the country, including the BIA.
The Minister made these comments during a passing-out ceremony for 135 newly trained security guards at the Colombo International Airport in Rathmalana. Additionally, he outlined plans to increase the current staff of 1,120 security personnel employed by the Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited up to 1,325.
Emphasizing the significance of the latest security and safety surveillance equipment installed at the Bandaranaike International Airport, the Minister expressed confidence that these measures would effectively deter any illicit importation of drugs or other prohibited goods through the airport.
The Minister said that the newly trained security personnel, equipped with the latest security measures, would dutifully perform their responsibilities without succumbing to any external influences.
During the ceremony, the Minister also presented badges to the new recruits and commendations to those who excelled in their training. Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited Chairman Eng. Athula Galketiya, along with other officials attended.
