Woman gets six years’ RI,fine for brutalising minor

A woman who was found guilty for brutalizing a minor girl was yesterday sentenced to six years rigorous imprisonment for three allegations by the Colombo High Court.

In addition to the sentence, the accused was ordered to pay compensation of Rs.75,000 to the victim girl and a fine of Rs.15,000 by the Colombo High Court.

The judgement was delivered by Colombo High Court Judge Adithya Patabendige after the accused pleaded guilty to all three charges against her. The accused was sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment for each charge and ordered to serve the sentence concurrently by the Colombo High Court.

The Attorney General had filed the case against the accused under 3 counts for cruelty of a child between the period of January 1, 2006 and December 31,2006 under the section 308 (a) 2 of the Penal Code as amended by No.22 of 1995 and No.16 of 2006.
