26 trains delayed as fog grips Delhi-NCR

Delhi’s minimum temperature settled at 7.3 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, according to the weather department. The Indian Railways today said that 26 Delhi-bound trains were delayed amid the presence of fog in the city.

While visibility improved marginally in various parts of the national capital, Safdarjung, Delhi’s primary weather station, recorded a visibility of 200 meters at 8:30 am on Wednesday, according to officials.

In Uttar Pradesh’s Noida and Greater Noida, the administrations ordered schools to be shut for students up to Class 8 till January 6 due to severe cold weather conditions in the district.

Through satellite imagery, the weather department observed fog over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Gujarat, north Madhya Pradesh and Assam on Wednesday morning.

The weather department said dense to very dense fog conditions are expected during the night and morning hours in parts of Punjab and Haryana from January 2 to 5, and in isolated pockets thereafter for the following two days.

Similarly, dense to very dense fog conditions are likely in early morning hours in some parts of Rajasthan on January 3 and 4, as well as in isolated pockets over north Madhya Pradesh on January 3.

Cold day to severe cold day conditions are likely to continue in many parts of Punjab and Haryana on January 3, and in some parts on January 4.

Over the next two days, east India is expected to experience no significant change in minimum temperatures, followed by a subsequent rise of 2-3 degree Celsius.

In Central India, minimum temperatures is likely to rise by 2-3 degree Celsius over the next three days, with no significant change thereafter. (India Today)
