Dengue scare in Western Province

Over 46% of cases reported in WP

The Western Province has been identified as a dengue high risk area and 46 percent of the country’s total dengue cases are reported from this Province, National Dengue Control Programme Director Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said yesterday (24).

He said the President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake has also issued a circular to all heads of institutions, including measures to be taken to prevent this situation from becoming an epidemic in the Western Province.

This circular on the prevention and control of dengue disease has been forwarded to all the Ministerial Secretaries, Provincial Chief Secretaries, Governor Secretaries, District Governors, District Secretaries, Heads of State Departments and Chairman of State,Corporations and Institutional Boards on December 22. So far,38,890 infected people have been reported from Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara districts.

Dr.Samaraweera said that since the beginning of this year, 84,807 infected people have been reported from all over the country and 50 dengue deaths have been reported.
