Central Environmental Authority (CEA) requested devotees visiting Sri Pada (Adams Peak) to avoid disposing polythene and plastic in the vicinity.

This year the Sri Pada Vandana (Pilgrimage) season will start on Unduvap Full Moon Poya Day, December 26, and will end on Vesak Full Moon Poya Day in 2024.

UNESCO designated the area where the Sri Pada is a World Heritage in 2010. It is our duty and responsibility to protect this sensitive environment. Thus, it is not appropriate to discharge trash by pilgrims who use polythene plastic packing or containers into this delicate environmental area when visiting Sri Pada, CEA Director General P.B.Hemantha said. If there is any garbage, pilgrims should hand it over to the garbage collection centers run by local authorities, private institutions, and voluntary organizations at the beginning of the main access roads to the Sri Pada.
