Nine vehicles of drug dealers seized in anti-narco operation

Police seized nine vehicles belonging to drug dealers during the countrywide 24-hour special operations named “Operation Yukthiya (Justice)” carried out by the Police over the last few days.

Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandhu Tennakoon said that the vehicles are valued at Rs. 68 million and vowed that all assets belonging to criminals that they have acquired through using ill-gotten money would be confiscated.

He further mentioned that these vehicles owned by criminals have been taken into the custody of the Illegal Properties or Assets Investigation Division of the Police.

While inspecting the impounded vehicles at the Illegal Assets Investigation Division in Narahenpita, the Acting IGP also vowed to apprehend the criminals who have fled the country in order to evade arrest. He said that strict measures would be taken to prevent any escape attempts of criminals.

Two vans, three cars, one jeep, one motorcycle and two tipper trucks have been listed among the seized vehicles. Sri Lanka Police launched a special island-wide 24-hour operation titled ‘Yukthiya’ (Justice) on Sunday (17) to crack down on drug peddling and organized crimes in the country. Over 4,000 suspects have been apprehended thus far during the special operations conducted over the last two days. Police have also seized a large stocks of narcotics including heroin, cannabis and ICE.
