There have been 98,000 incidents related to photos and videos related to obscene and abusive incidents involving children in this country being shared and released on the internet through the Google application.

In 2022, 146,000 incidents related to photos and videos related to obscene and abusive incidents involving children had been shared.

This information is revealed through a data system established within the Police Child and Women Abuse Prevention Bureau. This data system has been provided to this country by Google in 2021 with the intervention of US.

Even the IP number of the server where videos and photos are uploaded to Google will be automatically provided to Sri Lanka through this data system. It is also stated that since these data are received automatically, some cases are not related to this country and are related to other countries in the South Asian region including neighboring India.

Deputy Inspector General of Police of Children’s and Women’s Bureau Renuka Jayasundara stated in a press conference held yesterday at the Police Media Spokesperson’s Office that a raid recently was conducted based on information received from this data system and a person was arrested for posting nude pictures of a girl child on the Internet.
