Pushpika excels at Malaysian Golf Championship

Chalitha Pushpika secured the 11th position out of 71 players in the 119th Malaysian Amateur Open Golf Championship at Tiara Melaka Golf and Country Club which concluded yesterday.

Pushpika played four rounds in the tournament, scoring 79, 77, 72, and 73 in each round. The event had a par score of 71.

Pushpika qualified for the third round on Friday, making the cut to be among the best 41 golfers. Other players couldn’t make it to the third round from the initial group of 71 players representing 15 countries.

Uchitha Ranasinghe, the second contestant from Sri Lanka, narrowly missed the cut by three shots, recording scores of 81 and 82.

The tournament was won by Hariz Hezri of Malaysia, who posted scores of 73, 69, 75, and 70. Andrew Yap Yung Cheng, also from Malaysia, secured the runner-up position with scores of 74, 72, 70, and 72. In the team event, Korea emerged victorious with a total score of 289, while Malaysia A team was the runner-up with an aggregate score of 294.

The competition brought together top amateur golfers from 15 countries, highlighting its international prestige. Sri Lanka’s representatives will now participate in the Saujana Amateur Championship scheduled from December 13 to15 at the Saujana Country Club in Malaysia.
