Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake yesterday instructed the Police and the National Child Protection Authority to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the death of 17 year old child at a Children’s Detention Centre in Kalmunai on November 30 and sought a comprehensive report over the incident on the instruction of President Ranil Wickremesinghe . A warden of a children’s detention centre in Kalmunai has been arrested over a death of a 17-year-old detainee after the judicial medical officer returned a verdict of a murder as a result of an assault.
This boy has been directed to this detention centre following his arrest over a theft.During the post-mortem examination the coroner determined that this death was a result of an assault.
Accordingly Kalmunai Police conducted investigations and the said 28-year-old female warden surrendered to the Police.
