Five suspects have been arrested by the Police Narcotics Bureau, which conducted an investigation into the smuggling of a shipment of kush and cocaine, worth over Rs.50 million, from US to Sri Lanka.
The suspects include a 47-year-old employee of a company from Dematagoda, a 36-year-old employee of a private company, from Ambalangoda, a 27-year-old youth, a resident of Maligawatta, a 48-year-old clerk, a resident of Dematagoda and a 41-year-old employee of a company, a resident of Wellampitiya.
The Police Media Spokesman’s Office said these suspects are being held on detention orders and investigations are being conducted.
Customs officials inspected a parcel received at a warehouse belonging to a private company located in Bloemmendhal area where this drug stock was found on Wednesday 22. It had 5 kg, 161 grams of the drug Kush and 511 grams of cocaine.
There, a person who came to get the parcel released was arrested by Customs officials. This parcel was sent to Sri Lanka in the name of a woman, a resident of Gampaha.
