Criminal Investigation Department officers inspected a number of documents at the Medical Supplies Division of the Health Ministry in connection with the investigation into the case of fraud by purchasing substandard Human Immunoglobulin vials yesterday.
A senior officer of the Criminal Investigation Department stated that the inspection of documents was carried out according to an order by the Maligakanda Magistrate Lochana Abeywickrama.
The CID officers who came to the Medical Supply Division at around 9 am had inspected many files for several hours.
Criminal Investigation Department officrers have been able to uncover a lot of important information. A number of files in the office of Dr.Kapila Wickramanayake, Director of the Medical Supplies Division, who is currently under remand, had been subjected to a special inspection.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said that an investigation regarding the purchase of vials of Human Immunoglobulin vaccine has been initiated in relation to five complaints received by the Criminal Investigation Department.
SSP Nihal Thalduwa said 13 have been banned from travelling abroad by Court in relation to that investigation. SSP Thalduwa said that a manager of the company which sold the relevant vaccine vials to the Medical Supplies Division was arrested before and he is currently in remand.
