Sri Lanka Customs officers managed to arrest a parcel containing 511 grams of cocaine and 5.161 kilograms of marijuana worth approximately Rs.67 million today, said the Customs Director Seevali Arukgoda.
The narcotics were found concealed inside sealed cans of food items in the parcel by officers of the Sri Lanka Customs Revenue Inspection Unit.
This parcel was sent to Sri Lanka from the United States via a courier service to a woman who resides in Gampaha.
Along with the stock of drugs, they also arrested a 46-year-old person who came to collect the parcel with written consent from the woman. He further said that according to the information uncovered from the arrested suspect, customs officers arrested an assistant customs superintendent attached to courier service in suspicion.
The suspect and the arrested items are to be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau.
