Leader of the House, Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha told Parliament on Saturday  that a Committee should be appointed to investigate allegations levelled against the COPE Committee regarding the Sri Lanka Cricket and many other issues.

The Leader of the House further said that investigations should be conducted after appointing MPs acceptable to all Parties including the Opposition as the Chairman of the proposed Committee.

It has been revealed that 15 MPs are dependent on the money of the SLC and their names should be disclosed, he said.He said that all Members of Parliament are being accused due to these allegations and these situations should be corrected. He recalled that the COPE committee was a committee that even the veteran politicians of Sri Lanka held Chairmanship in.

He mentioned this in relation to the recent comments made in Parliament regarding the functioning of the COPE committee.

The Chairmanship of the COPE committee has been held by senior politicians.Former Minister Bernard Zoysa worked as a COPE Chairman for years. He taught others regarding the working of the COPE Committee.

Former COPE Chairman Prof.Vishwa Warnapala has even written a book about traditions, standing orders, even stuyding those in foreign countries, because he is a professor of political science.

Former Chairman D.E.W. Gunasekara is an accomplished and mature politician.

“We see that real problems of the people are being suppressed,” he said.”But none of them know what we do for the problems of common people. Therefore, we requested to bring all these people and give the necessary advice. Failure to do so is also a reason for these problems. A similar problem arose in the bond incident. But we worked well,” he said.
