The bodies of the four persons who went missing after an earth slip in the Horenkadura, Udawela in the Balangoda area last Sunday (13) have not been found yet.
The 47 year old father named Chaminda Sumith Kumara, mother Siriyalatha, a 15 year old daughter named Tashara Wimansha and 11 year old daughter named Isuri Dhananjana in the same family had gone missing.
Police and the Sri Lanka Army started operations to find the four bodies as soon as they received the news about the incident.The date of the tragedy and Father’s birthday fell on the same day. National Building Research Organization conducting further investigations. The Ratnapura District Secretary Wasantha Gunaratne said that this disaster has had various effects on the eight Divisional Secretariat Divisions of Ratnapura District namely Kolonna, Kalawana, Godakawela, Nivithigala, Embilipitiya, Opanayake, Balangoda and Kahawatte.
The Balangoda Regional Secretariat has arranged for nine residents of other houses that have been damaged due to the landslide to be sheltered in nearby safe places. One person is hospitalised.
The Disaster Management Centre said that 126 from 33 families have been affected by this incident. Police said that there is no definite information about the missing persons so far.
