Expatriate workers sent 517.4 million US dollars to this country last October and 7.6 billion US dollars have been received as foreign remittances since last May when Labour and Foreign Employment Minister, Manusha Nanayakkara assumed office.
Accordingly, the amount of foreign remittances received in October of this year shows an increase of 45.63 percent compared to the 355.4 million US dollars received in October last year. Also, during the first ten months of this year, 4,862.5 million US dollars (4.8 billion USD) have been received as foreign remittances, Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) media reported.
In the first ten months of last year (2022), foreign remittances amounted to 2,929.4 million US dollars (2.9 billion USD) has been received. Accordingly, the influx of foreign remittances has increased by 66 percent in the first ten months of this year compared to the first ten months of last year, SLBFE media added.
