Sri Lanka government has requested the general public to update their mobile phone SIM (subscriber identity module) card registration and ensure that the details are accurate.

In an official statement, the Department of Government Information stated that the inaugural phase of this verification initiative will commence in the Kandy district, running from Monday, November 13, to Saturday, November 18, between 09:00 am and 04:00 pm.

The DGI advised to dial #132# to check the details of individual SIM cards and call customer care service of mobile phone service companies to check if there had been any additional SIM cards registered under individual national identity card numbers.

The government has issued a stern warning, emphasizing that individuals who neglect to update their mobile SIM card registrations may be held accountable if their mobile numbers are exploited for illicit activities.
