The second Selangor International Junior Golf Championship (SIJGC), where four talented junior golfers from Sri Lanka will represent their nation, teeing off today at the challenging Seri Selangor Golf Club in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, on a course spanning 6807 yards.
The young golfers face an additional challenge due to the current wet conditions and fast greens, which will test their skills on the long course. Joining the competition are teams from Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Korea, Philippines, and China.
Sri Lanka’s Junior Golf team is composed of outstanding talents, including K Dhanushan, who holds the titles of reigning Sri Lanka Stroke Play and Match Play Junior Champion.
Accompanying him are Reshan Algama, the Club Champion from the Royal Colombo Golf Club; Jevahn Sathasivam, who secured the Runner-Up position in the Sri Lanka Junior Match Play Championship; and Adhithya Weerasinghe, the Champion in the Silver Division category of the Sri Lanka Junior Match Play Championship.
Notably, Reshan, Jevahn, and Dhanushan recently competed in the 14th Singha Thailand World Junior Golf Championship.
They aim to capitalize on the experience and exposure gained from this tournament to enhance their personal scores in the ongoing championship.
Thirteen-year-old Adhithya, hailing from Anuradhapura Central College, exhibited exceptional golfing skills during the trials, securing a spot in the team. As the newcomer to the team, he honed his golfing abilities at the Eagles Golf Club in Anuradhapura.
This championship marks his debut on the international stage, with hopes pinned on using this exposure as a platform for even greater accomplishments in the future.
