Fisheries Minister takes measures to solve passenger issues on ferry service

Issuing a media release the Fisheries Ministry stated that, “Engaging in a tour in the Kurikattuwan area in Jaffna recently, the Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda called the owners of the passenger ferry boats who provide services to Delft and Nainatheevu islands, the officials of the Navy, and the other officials relevant to the ferry service and held a special discussion. “
It further stated that, A lot of Government Official as well as ordinary people especially from Delft island fulfill their transport needs with this ferry service, and they have been severely inconvenienced due to the issues in the operation of this ferry service. These issues were discussed at length at the Jaffna District Development Committee meeting as well.

The Minister instructed the Ferry Boat Owners, the Officers of the Navy, and the officials related to the operation of this ferry service, to anchor the ferry boats according to the timetable and operate the service without any interruption and to appoint two officials to monitor this service.

The Minister further instructed to take necessary measures to moor the boats in the berth, properly, without causing hindrance to people, and to give priority to the transport services to Delft Island.
