Israel’s Foreign Ministry has announced that they suspect the Sri Lankan Sujith Bandara Yatawara who was reported missing following the outbreak of the conflict with Palestine Hamas militants since October 7, may be among the hostages held by the Hamas militants.

Ambassador Bandara said that Sri Lanka’s Foreign Ministry and Sujith Bandara Yatawara’s family have been informed of this development after receiving information from the Israel Foreign Ministry.

The 48-year-old father of two remains missing since October 7, the day when Hamas militants stormed from the blockaded Gaza Strip into nearby Israeli towns to launch an unprecedented attack.

Ambassador Bandara also said that investigations are currently being carried out to ascertain if the DNA samples that were recently obtained from Sujith Bandara Yatawara’s children are a match to an unidentified body that had been discovered by Israel’s Police.

The number of hostages that are being held by Hamas militants has increased and updated as 239, while four of them have been released, despite the initial reports that were received had the total hostages held by Hamas as 222, the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Israel said.

Ambassador Bandara said that all possible measures are being presently worked out in collaboration with the Israeli authorities and other relevant parties to ensure the potential rescue of the missing Sri Lankan Sujith Bandara Yatawara from his undisclosed location.
