A fire broke out on the third floor of a hotel under construction in front of the Galle Face Green yesterday (31) afternoon.
The building is located between Shangri-La Hotel and the Taj Samudra Hotel.
The Colombo Fire Service Department confirmed to Daily News that workers at the building had informed them immediately as the fire broke out at 1.58 pm and as a result the Fire Service Department sent five fire fighting vehicles including one with the lift.
The fire was swiftly brought under control and doused by the fire fighting unit preventing any damages taking place and before the fire could spread over to other areas, the Colombo Fire Service Department said.
No casualties or injuries reported due to the fire. The cause of the fire was yet to be confirmed but they suspect that a heavy load of garbage that was dumped and piled up on the third floor of the building was the cause for the fire to precipitate.
