Kebithigollewa Police said that the individual who posed as a monk and attacked Ven. Padaviya Wanavasi Vijitha Buddhi Thera is an Island Registered Criminal (IRC).
This individual who was wearing robes and residing Kurulugama Vihara in Kebethigollewa had attacked Ven.Padaviya Wanawasie Vijitha Buddhi Thera who had come to a house in the village to deliver the sermon on Vap Full Moon day.
Accordingly, based on preliminary Police investigations, fingerprint reports had revealed that this robed individual has three cases pending against him at the Hatton Court and one case in the Ruwanwella Court in connection with breaking into and robbing houses and property. The robed person has said he does not possess an identity card and according to Police he has used several names.The lay name of this person is Atapattu Arachchilage Chamara Asanka Kumara and he is known as Ranjurawe Sugathawansa Thera, Ranjurawe, Dheerananda and Ranjurawe Pugnyavamsa Thera and Dharamathilaka Thera. The Padaviya Wanawasie Bhikku who had come to the Kalavedhi Ulpatha village to deliver a sermon in commemoration of the seventh day, on Vap Poya day, after a 43-year-old man passed away subsequent to being stung by a viper, had been assaulted by a monk of the Kurulugama village and a group of about 100 persons. These people had attacked Vijitha Buddhi Thera, who was living at the Boralukanda Historical Nikasala Aranya Senasana, Padaviya Nikasala Mathachiththa Vivekasrama and Wahalkada Isigirikanda Senasana.
The wife and children of the 43-year-old man who died subsequent to being stung by a snake, live in the Kalavedi Ulpatha village while fighting with the earth to survive in the face of the severe economic crisis. The contributing temple to this village is also the temple of Kurulugama.
