The Israeli Government has taken steps to honour Anula Ratnayake who died during the Israeli–Hamas conflict after risking her life to save the elderly Israeli woman she was taking care of.

Anula Ratnayake who was working as a caregiver took steps to save the life of the person she was taking care of – Ettie Morado.

Ratnayake had hidden the elderly woman under a bed in a room, before coming out of the house to investigate what was happening.

She had been killed due to firing by Hamas rebels, but the elderly woman whom she was taking care of had been saved, Nimal Bandara, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Israel, stated.

He said that another Sri Lankan had saved the life of an elderly Israeli person by taking care of him inside a bunker for three days and two people from Kerala, India, too have acted in such a brave manner to save their Israeli employers.

Bandara said the Israeli government is in the process of collecting such details.

The Ambassador further said to honour Ratnayake, the Israeli government has given instructions for the Israeli flag to be placed on her coffin.

The elderly woman of the house who was rescued has said, “I am blind. Anula was my eyes. She hid me under the bed and went forward to see what was happening.”
