State Finance Minister Dr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said that steps have been taken to speed up the recruitment of 1,500 family health service officers (midwives).
This group has been waiting for employment for three years after passing their interviews.
The State Finance Minister further said that priority will be given to health recruitment.
Accordingly, specific decisions on the relevant recruitments will be given in the next few days by the Management Services Department.
The Minister said this in a discussion held yesterday with the Family Health Service Officers’ Association at the Finance Ministry.
According to a gazette notification published in January 2021, interviews have been conducted to recruit 2,500 family health service officers.
Around 1,000 of them are currently undergoing training and the rest are still waiting for jobs.
Due to the suspension of government appointments as a result of the economic crisis, this group who passed the interviews was in great difficulty, Chairperson of the Family Health Service Officers’ Association Devika Kodituwakku said.
