President’s Trade Union Affairs Director General Saman Ratnapriya stressed that legal action should be taken against the persons, who are responsible for supplying substandard drugs as it is a matter linked to the lives of people. Certain incidents of inferior drug imports

were reported even during the good governance government in 2015. Such things are happening even now. Recently, a lot of information was revealed regarding the importation of an antibiotic. Even the CID is investigating about it. It is not enough to conduct mere an investigation. It is a must that the suspects should be given proper punishment, he said.

Ratnapriya said this at a special press conference held at his office at D.R.Wijayawardena Mawatha, Colombo 10 on Thursday (19). He said that it is regrettable that the Opposition interpreted the preparation of the background to hold elections under the new rules by changing the outdated election rules as an attempt to postpone the elections.

Ratnapriya stated that changing the election rules is a long-term need. He also emphasized that by holding elections otherwise, the changes demanded by the country will not be carried out properly. It is not the role of the Opposition to criticize everything the ruling party does. He said that it is the responsibility of the Opposition to support government’s efforts to rebuild the broken country from all aspects.

Ratnapriya said that in rebuilding the economically broken country, political, social and economic aspects should be recovered.

“President Ranil Wickramasinghe is trying to rebuild the country, which has collapsed in every way. Those efforts have been successful. He is a leader who works with the international community. That is why the country’s economy has entered a turnaround,” the Director General said.

The value of the Sri Lankan Rupee is gradually increasing. Foreign remittances have increased. Today, the foreign reserves of the country has increased to 3.5 billion dollars. A huge amount has been allocated for health, education, agriculture, social welfare and other sectors in the upcoming budget. Through this, the people will get good economic benefits in the future, he further said.

The country cannot move forward by following the old orders or guidelines. Therefore, those that need to be updated should be updated. Election rules should be changed. The electoral system should be revised. Anti-corruption laws should be implemented. Election expenses should be regulated. It is the President’s vision and program to create development in all sectors by doing them.

In order to preserve world peace, the powers must unite and take measures to prevent the recurrence of war.
