The identity of the Sri Lankan woman who was trapped under the rubble of a residential building that had collapsed in Lebanon on Tuesday (October 17) has

been confirmed by the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE). The trapped Sri Lankan woman in the debris has been identified as a 65-year-old resident of Miriswatta in Gampaha, SLBFE spokesman Gamini Senarath Yapa said. The Sri Lankan woman was among five others who had been trapped after the collapse of the seven-storey building.

“The building located near Lebanon’s Capital Beirut had collapsed on Tuesday. According to reports from the Sri Lankan Embassy in Lebanon, five people, including a Sri Lankan woman aged 65 years from Miriswatta in Gampaha had been trapped under the rubble. We are still receiving reports from the Embassy and will initiate action based on them,” Gamini Senarath Yapa said. Tensions in the Israel-Lebanon disputed border area are growing rapidly, raising deep concerns of an imminent broader regional conflict.
