Sri Lanka won the second Central Asian Men’s Volleybal Challenge Cup beating Usbekistan 3-0 ( 25-14, 25 18, 25 22) in the final worked off at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium yesterday. Sri Lankans played well to compete the first set in just 20 minutes.
Lankans before entering the second set were in fine form and went on to win the same 25-18. The second set was completely dominated by the Lankan spikers to take a firm lead 2-0.
The third set saw Uzbekistan taking an early lead of the set but Lankan spikers fought their way to reduce lead and went ahead to grab the victory in a close fight at 25-22 which gave Lankans the victory in this set and also the final win to gain the Challenge Trophy to make it their second victory of the CAVA Central Asia Men’s Challenge Cup.
Earlier in the day, Afghanistan playing against Saudi Arabia also went on to win the match 3-0 (25-1925 16, 25 18) to carry away the Silver medal for the third place.
This match saw Afghanistan dominating from the beginning of game as Afghans never allowed their opponent to go past the 20 point mark during all three sets, showing strength in defense and attacking to take the third position.
