The much-awaited Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) elections are set to begin today at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute’s Auditorium. at 3 PM, the proceedings will be under the watchful eyes of officials from FIFA and AFC, with guidance from the Sports Ministry.
This electoral showdown sees two rival parties vying for the prestigious roles of President and the Executive Committee, entrusted with steering the FFSL’s course until September 2027. From the FFSL’s 67 affiliated leagues, three representatives each will participate, with just one representative casting a confidential vote for their preferred party.
Already, three FIFA officials and one representative from the AFC have arrived in Sri Lanka, prepared to oversee the election process. To ensure transparency and fairness, the Ministry of Sports will also have its representative in attendance.
The intricate electoral process will be carefully administered by a three-member Electoral Committee, led by Retired High Court Judge Dr. Abdul Majeed. Dr. Majeed provided an overview of the schedule, explaining, “Voting will commence promptly at 3 o’clock, with all 67 delegates taking their turns to cast their ballots. Once the voting concludes, expected to last no more than five minutes, the counting process will commence at 4 p m Subsequently, the winners will be announced.”
Interim President of the FFSL, Deshapriya, disclosed that three members from each of the 67 leagues are set to participate in this significant event.
