The Kamburupitiya Police said that a person who ran away with handcuffs when he was arrested while hunting, later came to the police station in handcuffs and handed himself over.

Kamburupitiya Police were checking suspicious vehicles and persons in the 14-acre area on the night of September 26 as per the instructions given by the Police Commissioner.

While inspecting a motorcycle, the police officers found a pointed knife and an improvised explosive device (hakkapatas) used for killing animals in the possession of the rider of that motorcycle. Accordingly, the officers who were ready to arrest this person on suspicion put a handcuff on one hand and when they were about to put the other end of the handcuff on the other hand, he pushed the officers and ran away with the handcuffs.

While investigations were being conducted to arrest the person, he came to the police on September 27 and surrendered with handcuffs. The police said that this person, aged 33, is a resident of Anuradhapura Saliya Wewa town and is staying temporarily in Kamburupitiya. The police said that this man was caught while he was hunting.
