Sri Lanka – Zimbabwe clash in under-19 WC curtain-raiser

16 teams will compete in the ICC under 19 boys world cup cricket tournament next year, which will be hosted by Sri Lanka across five different venues. This is the first time since 2006 that Sri Lanka will host the tournament, and they will play Zimbabwe in the tournament opener. The Under 19 cricket world cup tournament will be held from January 13 to February 4.

Sri Lanka under 19 team recently won both ODI series and four day match series against West Indies looking to do their best in the forthcoming world cup after touring Pakistan in October to play match series to get more exposure before the world cup.

Earlier in two occasion year 2000 and 2006 Sri Lanka hosted this under 19 world cup while Sri Lanka team led by Malintha Gajanayake entered the final at SSC in 2000 lost to India led by Mohammed Kaif .

Five venues located in Colombo will stage the 15th edition of the celebrated event,the P. Sara Oval, Colombo Cricket Club, Nondescripts Cricket Club, Singhalese Sports Club and the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, the arena chosen to host both semi finals on 30 January and 1 February, and the Final on 4 February.

The action starts on January 13 with three fixtures taking place on opening day. Hosts Sri Lanka take on Zimbabwe at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, while 2022 finalists England play Scotland at Colombo Cricket Club and New Zealand face off against Nepal at the P. Sara Oval.

The groups in the first stage of the tournament have already been decided. Group A will feature India, Bangladesh, Ireland and USA. Groups B will consist of England, South Africa, West Indies and Scotland. Australia, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and Namibia will make up Group C. Afghanistan, Pakistan, New Zealand and Nepal will compete in Group D.
