Yupun withdraws from Asian Games

Sri Lanka Sprinter Yupun Abeykoon will not participate in the forthcoming Asian Games according to Sri Lanka Athetics (SLA) Secretary Saman Kumara Gunawardena.

Yupun has submitted a long letter to Sri Lanka Athletics about the current condition of his hamstring injury and clearly stated his unavailability for the Major event of this Asian Games.

Commonwealth Games bronze medalist 28 year old Yupun Abeykoon couldn’t represent Sri Lanka after his bronze medal.

Abeykoon the South Asian fastest athlete was able to finish 100m under 10 minutes while he recorded 9.96 seconds in Switzerland also holds National 100m and 200m National records .

Abeykoon based in Italy having competed at Diamond league while he set up 150m.Asian record in 150m with 15.16 seconds.

The athletic expert said Sri Lankan key sprinter ruled himself out of Florence Diamond League meet the Asian Athetic championship and World Athletic championship to focus on Asian Games but now he stated his availability for Asian Games. This is very disappointing he already get money from Sports Ministry and a large sum of money from Sri Lanka Cricket (50,000 us dollars ),but it’s not worth as he is not taking part in games like Asian Games.

However one time Yupun said there was no support from Sri Lanka officials and he was highly criticized about his comments.
