Anunayaka of the Malwathu Chapter Ven. Dimbulkumbure Wimaladhamma Thera said that the time has come to move away from the traditional political system and come together to build the country in harmony.

He said that the country has been pushed to such a dangerous crisis presently because of the politicians who thought about themselves before the country.

The Thera said this when MP Imtiaz Bakeer Markar went to the Malwathu Maha Viharaya yesterday (11) to present the book titled Sithamu written by him.

He said that fraud, corruption, bribery and thuggery have spread more or less from the top to the bottom of the country at present and the crime wave is also increasing day by day.

Ven. Wimaladhamma Thera said that cases where people are murdered by shooting and stabbing are now often heard and when the number of people using drugs increases, it is normal for crime to increase.

The Sinhala Buddhist people should be interested in learning Tamil and other languages and similarly the Tamil and Muslim people should also be interested in learning the Sinhala language, he said, emphasising that the harmony of the country can be easily built through this.

He said that the language problem even led to the 30-year war and ignorance of the language led to distrust between the Sinhalese and Tamil people.

The Thera said that some powerful countries are trying to destroy Sri Lanka under the guise of the current economic crisis and the political party leaders should understand this at least now and be eager to come out from the traditional political system.
