Today (06) marks the 77th anniversary of the United National Party (UNP).
On September 6, 1946, the United National Party was established under the leadership of Mahamanya D. S. Senanayake at the Palm Court House in Guilford Crescent, Colombo. In conjunction with the 77th anniversary,
the digitization of the United National Party is scheduled to be done today (6) at Sirikotha, the party headquarters. With the initiation of the first steps of digitizing the party, the party members will have the opportunity to connect with the party online.
On the occasion of the party’s anniversary, religious services will be held this morning at Sirikotha.
At 7.30 am, after engaging in religious rites, the statues of the late leaders of the party will be garlanded.
The party’s Deputy Leader Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, National Organizer, President’s Chief of Staff Sagala Ratnayaka, Chairman Vajira Abeywardena and General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara, former Education Minister Dr. Karunasena Kodithuvakku, Sirikotha Executive Director Shamal Senarath and all the officials of the party will participate in the event . It was decided to hold the party’s anniversary celebration and convention on September 10 in front of Lake House in Colombo, but the party authorities have decided to postpone it due to the adverse weather in the country. A senior party member said that the date of the celebration will be decided at the party Working Committee meeting this Friday.
