UN Envoy congratulates SL for Anti-Corruption Act, setting up of Parliamentary Budget Office

United Nations Resident Co-ordinator in Sri Lanka Marc-Andre Franche met Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana at Parliament premises recently.

The United Nations Resident Co-ordinator in Sri Lanka Marc-Andre Franche congratulated Sri Lanka on the adoption of the Anti-Corruption Act and the establishment of the Parliamentary Budget Office.

He also mentioned that the United Nations is ready to provide 300 million dollars through the new co-operation programme for the next five years.

He noted the above during a meeting with Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana, at Parliament premises recently.

Parliament Secretary General Kushani Rohanadeera was also present.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana expressed his gratitude for the continuous support of the United Nations Development Programme as a development partner of the Sri Lanka’s Parliament.

Views were also exchanged on Sri Lanka’s legislative process, electoral system, peace building activities and women’s representation in politics.

Parliament Secretary General Kushani Rohanadeera explained the programmes by the Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus to strengthen the representation of women in politics and the inclusion of youth representatives for the Sectoral Oversight Committees.
