The Supreme Court yesterday dismissed the preliminary objections raised by the Election Commission (EC) against a writ petition filed by retired Army Colonel W.M.R. Wijesundara seeking an order to suspend the decision to hold Local Government (LG) polls in the face of an economic crisis and allowed the petition to be heard.
It was decided to hear this petition after a long consideration of the objections and the arguments against it.
Notices were issued to the respondents in the petition directing them to submit their facts regarding the petition.
The hearing of the petition was scheduled to be held on February 14 next year.
