A Police Constable of the Police Special Task Force, on duty in the Temple of the Tooth, has been arrested in connection with an incident of arson under the intoxication of alcohol.
He is accused of damaging nine historical photographs displayed in the Udarata Kala Sangam Hall, which is located near the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy,
According to the information received that the suspect was behaving in a riotous manner in the early hours of yesterday (2), Police went there and arrested him. He was referred to the Kandy National Hospital’s Judicial Medical Officer and a report taken. The report confirmed that the Constable was drunk. Police investigations have revealed that he has been working in the Asgiriya sub-unit of the Gampola Police Special Task Force camp.
The arrested suspect has been handed over to the Kandy headquarters police for further investigation under the direction of Chief Inspector S.P.W.K. Senadheera of the Temple of the Tooth Police Station.
