Netball Federation of Sri Lanka (NFSL) has planned to make new suggestions for the forthcoming National Cup Netball Tournament which will be played from October 22-28 in Singapore.
According to the President of NFSL Victoria Lakshmi after discussing with National Sports Council members regarding recently concluded World Cup we have decided to make a few changes of the National team as well as get a new National coach for the National Cup Netball tournament focused on our future. In addition they also have plan to appoint selectors for Netball very soon.
The NFSL conducted selections matches on August 26 for talent search and 15 new players who are over 17 years and over 5 feet 7 inches height –players were selected by three officials Asha Siriwardena, Yamuna Sandamali and Deepthi Alwis. In addition to extra 15 players already 15 player National team also included for National pool focused on Nation Cup tournament. Two experience players Chaturangi Jayasuriya and Asian best goal shooter Tharjini Shivalingam already announced their retirement and NFSL wanted to get back up players for them.In addition NFSL have an idea to get foreign coach to assist our local coaches for the benefit of the game.
National Cup tournament is very good for the Sri Lanka team while host Singapore , Canada, Papua New Guinea and Cook Island are expected to take part in this tournament
NFSL President Victoria Lakshmi said no point doing a postmortem of the world cup now that we have to prepare for the future tournaments. Meanwhile NFSL is expected to appoint a new National coach and applications will close on September 10.
