United National Party (UNP) General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara said the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP),  has always helped bring one particular political party into power. He said this at a press conference held yesterday (29) at party headquarters Sirikotha. He said that, in 1977, during the Sirimavo Bandaranaike administration, the country fell into a perilous abyss. That time J.R. Jayewardena took charge of the country and moved the country forward. Presently, President Ranil Wickremesinghe too, is working to move the country forward, through all fields such as agriculture, health, education, industrialisation, foreign relations, pension industry and others which had fallen into an abyss, as in the past. Ranil Wickremesinghe is also ushering in a new era, like what former President Jayewardene did.

When Ranil Wickremesinghe took over the country, we were alone in the world. Now the President has got the ability to deal with the powerful States of the world and win their trust. During his last visit to Singapore, he was able to negotiate with the Singaporean Prime Minister and sign a number of special agreements. It is very clear that there is a successful foreign policy and the development of relations with foreign countries.

The JVP has been accused of taking the country’s wealth and investing it in Malta. Anura Kumara Dissanayaka (AKD), as one of the most vociferous speakers in Parliament, has the ability to propose a discussion or debate in Parliament that will provide answers in this regard and prove their innocence. Also, they have the ability to go and complain to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to give a decision on the investigation process very quickly. What they have done is file defamation cases instead.

It takes about 10 to 12 years to complete such proceedings. At that time, nobody would remember Malta or Uganda. The public is asking why AKD is not going to the CID.

If such a transaction took place, we have to ask whether the Rajapaksas’ money is also involved in it. We have such doubts, because the JVP helped bring the Rajapaksas to power. There is a possibility of this kind of transaction happening in friendships.
