The laying of the foundation for the new security checkpoint.
The large-scale deployment of Police at the Anurdhaprua Atamasthana is being done away with, while the security service being provided is systematized.
Atamasthanadhipathi Most Venerable Dr. Pallegama Hemarathana Nayaka Thera told the Daily News that the atmosphere around the Sacred Shrines should be peaceful and environmentally friendly for the boosting of the spiritual advancement of devotees visiting the Atamasthana for worshipping and performing religious observances and rituals.
Consequently as the first step, the People’s Bank has come forward to construct two security posts outside the western gateway (Wahalkada) of the Sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura. At present, the security check points are located on the interior side of the shrine. The laying of the foundation for two permanent checkpoints took place recently amidst Seth Pirith chanting performed by the Maha Sangha headed by Most Ven. Dr. Pallegama Hemarathana Thera.
The People’s Bank is investing Rs. 7 million for the project with the Sri Lanka Army contributing the total manpower required for the construction of two security checkpoints equipped with modern scanning and checking apparatus. Responding to a request by the Atamasthanadhipathi Nayaka Thera, the construction will be completed within one month by the Army. People’s Bank General Manager Nipunika Wijerathna, Wanni Commander Major General Dinesh Nayakkara, Project Coordinator Colonel Chamal Mahendra, Anuradhapura People’s Bank Regional Manager Ashitha Danawalawithana, Assistant Regional Manager Sudeera Jayasinghe and Assistant Security Superintendent Major (Rtd) Thusanta Dassanayaka were also present.
